The New Testament makes a surprising reference to string theory. In the book of Colossians, chapter 1 verse 17, Paul states that "in Him all things hold together." I don't think Paul intended to venture into cosmic theories, but nevertheless, he makes a simple statement, that if considered in the proper light, really sums up string theory- the idea that some yet to be found element or force underlies and thereby guides all natural laws of this universe. The "Him" being, of course, Jesus, specified here and elsewhere as the agent responsible for all of Creation.
If one is able to entertain this idea, it answers a lot of questions.
